As I entered a new millennium in 2000, I took on the role of Mom. Fulfilled with my new role, and forming playgroups, mom’s groups, and continuing my involvement with the Spirituality Network and Landmark Education, I still had not found a steady physical fitness routine for myself. As a youngster I was active in swimming, twirling baton, softball, volleyball, and running on my school track team. My parents would often take me to the local Y, and the fitness atmosphere suited me well.
In 2004, upon the urging of a friend, I participated in my first Nia group fitness class. I felt freedom, expression, play, community, sweat, and moving meditation. Later that year I took the White Belt Nia training to begin teaching. Since then, I have taught hundreds of classes all over the city….in gyms, women’s centers, schools, yoga studios, dance studios, churches, and for special conferences and programs! Nia is truly a unique movement arts program that unites Mind, Spirit, Body & Emotions!
I discovered I really wanted to learn more about the Body – the anatomy - and how it works – mechanically. Having worked out with various personal trainers over the years, I decided I wanted to explore, in depth, a personal training career. As a Licensed Independent Social Worker and Life Coach, and through my individual and group spiritual work, I was confident that I had the skills to assist people with mental, emotional and spiritual issues. Furthermore, many women enrolled in my Nia classes were asking, searching and desiring support to help assist them through life changes. I wanted to be able to offer more holistic services to meet individuals’ needs. I also had pressing needs of my own to lose some extra weight, get toned, eat better, sustain a meditation practice and increase my energy level.
I completed the 500-hour, 6 month training program at the National Personal Training Institute in Columbus. I learned anatomy, body mechanics, designing programs for various client populations, understanding program design, nutritional education, and hands-on training. Personal training connects me very directly to people and enables me to assist them to live more fully and joyfully!
As a Certified Personal Trainer, I am equipped to assist women, one-on-one and in group settings to meet our unique needs and desires on a Mind, Spirit, Body & Emotional Level.
